They ask for at least one to two weeks notice, but sooner would be better to get everything set up to have the best opportunity for the children.
Grades:
Kindergarten classes are the only ones that this tour is made available to. At the beginning of each school year, the hospital sends out a letter to all kindergarten classes telling them of the opportunity.
*There is an exception to the rule. The hospital keeps track of what schools come and take the tour. If there is a grade one or two class that did not take part in the tour while they were in kindergarten the hospital will make an exception. This is the only exception made!
Tour Includes:
½ of the class stays in meeting room
In the meeting room there is:
-toys
-books
-children’s doctor kit
-tray of what food they might receive if they were in the hospital
-and much more
½ of the class goes on the tour
The tour of the Pediatric Ward:
-begin by passing the admittance area (guide will talk about what happens when you come to the hospital)
-students will also pass by the lab area (guide may or may not stop here and talk about what goes on in the lab)
-finally the children will get a tour of the pediatric ward, classroom and playroom
-on their way back to the meeting room the children will pass by the emergency room (depending on what is going on and guide children will be shown around)
*children will not get an opportunity to talk to a doctor as it is a rule
*talking to nurses is more lenient but still unlikely
Tour End:
-a bag will be given to the teacher to take back with her
In each bag there will be enough of the following for the children:
-a mask
-a bonnet
-possibly a few other trinkets
Also included in the bag:
-id wrist bands (number of will depend on class size)
-tensor bands (number of will depend on class size)
